I imagine the vast majority of people who have attended the Sheriff's/Oxnard Police Benefit Football Game, came with the same thought in mind that I had. "The $3.00 donation wasn't an exorbitant price to pay for a "few laughs", and a bunch of cops trying to play football likely would be "Something to See", and we were right!! It WAS something to see and very few laughs , but a LOT OF FOOTBALL!!
I couldn't believe how impressive both teams were. I found myself forgetting that I wasn't watching a professional game. It was clear from the opening kick-off that the participants came to play football, and play football they did!!
The closing minutes of the game were every bit as exciting as any I've seen with the winning touchdown pass coming with just seconds to go.
It's unfortunate one player was injured seriously enough to be taken away in an ambulance, but that is a vivid indication of the intensity and seriousness with which the game was played.
To those of you who missed it , I can only say you missed a terrifically exciting event.
To those of you who participated on the field , I would like o say on behalf of all of us in the stands, we felt we were treated to an excellent contest, played with true vigor and sportsmanship.
Thank you very much, Gary McCollum. |
